Wrapping up our first Bloody Great Friday
If there’s one thing everyone loves, it’s Friday. In fact, it’s scientifically proven that Friday is the happiest day of the week. That’s why we decided to open some of our centres for 24-hours, to host our first ever donate-a-thon - Bloody Great Friday.
The need for blood never stops, and neither did our generous donors. They turned up at all hours (big props to our incredible staff too) to make our first Bloody Great Friday a roaring success. We had live music, magicians, caricature artists and an absolute bounty of post donation snacks on offer. In fact, we crunched the numbers and found that our donors have a bit of a sweet tooth!
Tasty treats by the numbers
- Donor kebabs served: 270
- Waffles and smoothies devoured: 165
- Ice-cream scoops: 730
- Caricatures drawn: 134
A bloody great way to save lives
We loved seeing our donors enjoying their bespoke snacks, but the best thing by far was seeing so many generous people turn up to help save hundreds of lives.
We had 28,580 donors walk through our doors over National Blood Donor Week. During our first ever 24-hour donate-a-thon there were over 1,000 donations made at our Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne CBD centres, and over 500 of these donors were there for the very first time!
We also want to give a big shout-out to the partners that helped us make a huge success of our first ever Bloody Great Friday. Special thanks to our amazing chefs: Frank Camorra from MoVida, Richard Ousby from Stokehouse and Nelly Robinson. Plus Gelato Messina for creating our own bespoke flavour.
We’re already working on even bigger and better plans for next year, but you can keep being a legend and donate at one of our centres across the country in the meantime.
