Transplantation and Immunogenetics Services (TIS) delivers agile and efficient transplantation and immunogenetics testing services and scientific expertise across the country.
This is done to meet current and future demands for stem cell and organ transplantation and immunogenetics requirements.
TIS provide transplantation matching laboratories in Sydney (NTIS), Melbourne (VTIS) and Adelaide (SATIS), with a 24 hour on-call service for deceased organ donor matching.
The TIS laboratories also provide disease association genetics and pharmacogenetic testing.
Platelet immunobiology testing
The Brisbane (QTIS) and Melbourne (VTIS) Platelet Laboratories are national platelet reference laboratory services providing specialised testing for platelet immunobiology and related transfusion reactions.
Neutrophil immunobiology testing
The Brisbane (QTIS) Neutrophil Laboratory is a national neutrophil reference laboratory service providing specialised testing for neutrophil immunobiology and related transfusion reactions.
All samples requiring neutrophil testing can be sent directly, or will be forwarded, to the QTIS reference laboratory for testing.
Human leucocyte antigen (HLA) testing
Human leucocyte antigen (HLA) compatible platelet searching and matching is performed in Sydney (NTIS) and Melbourne (VTIS) for patients nationally, as well as diagnostic investigations for specialised transfusion reactions.
TIS also provides HLA typing for the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) donors, and Cord Blood banks.

For any platelet or neutrophil testing requests, complete the relevant form. Read the sample collection guidelines, and then send it and any applicable samples to the relevant testing laboratory.
